Pianoscapes update - Leadership and the Powers
of Place at The Banff Centre
Dear Friends,
Each of my music recordings has been inspired by the power
and beauty of place, either in the presence of a physical
place or through the imagination. Almost Home was
inspired by the call to adventure and Walt Whitman's Song
or the Open Road, Echoes of Childhood by William Wordsworth's
invitation to attune again to sounds of the world with an
innocent ear, Morning in Medonte celebrated the rolling
hills and valleys of Medonte Township and After the Rain
the fresh light, the whispering of the wind through the pines,
and the memorable sound of waves washing over the granite
rock along the windswept waters of Georgina Bay.
In a similar fashion those leaders with whom I find the most
inspiration find their roots in their memories of place. These
gifts from the past form the legacy stories with which they
create their future. In this context, in the new leadership
story, the power of place will serve as our primary guide.
From our earliest days, being deeply connected to a place
in our physical environment or the imagination, has instructed
us in a new and unique way of engaging our world. Through
the symbols, stories, metaphors and images with which we hold
and describe the power of place, the future touches us, awakens
our heart, enlivens our senses and attracts us ever more fully
into life.

An Invitation
In May I will be co- leading a seminal conference with Renee
Levi on Place - Based Leadership at the Banff Centre. The conference
will include time outdoors in the beauty of Banff and the Bow
River Valley, music, stories presentations and active learning
through reflection and generative dialogue. Click
here to download the invitation brochure.
I hope you may join us.
And watch for new essays on leadership and the significance
of place in the coming weeks.
With warm regards,
Michael
